Water & Power - City of Loveland
LWP Home MenuElectric Homes
All-electric homes run on electricity instead of fossil fuels like natural gas or propane – reducing carbon emissions and even saving money on heating costs.
As a city we’re working with our regional neighbors to shift our electricity generation from fossil fuels to renewable sources like solar, hydro and wind. By going all-electric, you’re participating in that shift toward carbon neutrality and cleaner air, you’re also opting for a more efficient source of energy that can save you money as we transition into a cleaner future.
Benefits of going all-electric
- Improve indoor air quality. Going electric reduces indoor air pollution and health risks to your family that originate from burning natural gas inside the home.
- Lower heating costs. If your home and water are currently heated with natural gas, propane or electric resistance, switching to an efficient heat pump or heat pump water heater will reduce your annual heating costs.
- Gain air conditioning. Heat pumps cool the air in the summer and warm the air in the winter. If your home doesn’t have air conditioning, adding a heat pump system will add air conditioning and improve your comfort during summer months.
- Reduce emissions and improve outdoor air quality. Residential energy use accounts for roughly 20% of greenhouse gas emissions in the US (EPA, 2023); outdoor air quality in cities is negatively impacted by gas-fueled furnaces and water heaters that exhaust combustion gases into the air (Rocky Mountain Institute, 2020).
- Reinvest in your community. As a community-owned utility, your electricity costs stay in Loveland. Not-for-profit public utilities ensure customer payments are reinvested directly in utilities and programs that help our city – unlike payments to private companies.
Ways to go all-electric
You don’t have to make your whole home electric all at once.
Here are investments you can make over time (with available rebates) to move your household toward being an all-electric home, including details about what each investment requires:
